Masters of Wine from around the world, including wine educators, journalists and wine buyers, converged in Chile for a 10-day tour and assessment of Chile’s developments as a world-class appellation. On Tuesday 18th October they visited Viña Errázuriz to participate in the “Chilean Wine Ageing Potential Challenge”. The purpose of this event was to allow the opportunity for the Masters of Wine to evaluate the world-class status and ageing potential of Chilean icon wines tasted blind alongside wines acknowledged as being amongst the very best Grand Crus of Bordeaux, France.
The Chilean Wine Ageing Potential Challenge was hosted by the President of Viña Errázuriz, Eduardo Chadwick. Joining Eduardo was Lynne Sheriff MW, President of the Institute of Masters of Wine, who was among the 16 Masters of Wine from around the world who participated in this morning-long tasting. After the results were announced, Lynne commented:
“I had the privilege and pleasure to attend the Berlin Tokyo Tasting event at which the Chadwick & Seña wines also outperformed their French and Italian counterparts. It is very courageous to willingly place your wines in a blind tasting against the best of the world and not be afraid of the consequences. Once again at Errazuriz, the wines from Seña stole the limelight from the other wines. In organizing these tastings, Eduardo Chadwick speaks not only for himself, but indeed for all wines of Chile in demonstrating the quality, pedigree and ageability of great Chilean wines.”
Eduardo Chadwick was thrilled with the results and commented, “Our Aconcagua Valley in Chile is already recognized amongst the top world-class appellations, and the results of this tasting are a testament to Seña’s great aging potential. Seña was created as the first icon wine from Chile in 1995, and over the past 17 years the wines have shown consistently high quality in blind tastings around the world. I am delighted that today the Masters of Wine have recognized the inherent world-class quality of our Seña wines”.
“The first and second place finishes obtained by Viña Seña send a clear signal to this very important and demanding group of tasters. The awards are also an important and well- deserved acknowledgement of Eduardo Chadwick’s untiring commitment to expressing the highest quality in Chilean wines, based upon his conviction that Chile is a world class appellation.” Juan Somavía S., Managing Director de Wines of Chile
This national icon wine will soon present its best vintages along with the best-known French Grand Crus at the “Seña Vertical Tasting Tour in Asia” (Hong Kong, China, Korea, and Taiwan). The objective is to demonstrate the tremendous quality of Chilean wine and its ageing potential in the most important Asian markets.
